Belief is one of those tricky words that is difficult to explain without using an example, because it is effectively a psychological state. It is where you psychologically hold the concept in your mind that something is true. That is one accepts a specific proposition or premise to be true.
Belief can be driven through blind faith in which no scientific explanation or proof needs to be provided to prove the belief to be true.
Belief can be driven through experience in which that if something occurs with such predictability and consistency it is almost impossible to discard it as being true. Even if something does not replicate exactly on random occasions it can still be dismissed as fluke or a statistical blip, and the belief keeps its authority and its psychological essence of being true.
Belief can be driven through fact or scientific or mathematical truth, reliability and consistency. A mathematical equation such as two plus two equals four is a pretty difficult fact to deny or destroy.
The hardest beliefs in the world to destroy are those driven through fact and blind faith. These beliefs are almost cast in stone, and are the rocks on which the foundation of our social existence, religion, culture, economy and society we live in are built.
However not all beliefs are such rocks of scientific, social or psychological magnitude, it is those beliefs that are built from experience which are built upon the foundation of paper cards and can tumble and fall with even the slightest doubt.
It is these beliefs that are the hardest to learn, discover or copy. This is why just learning what one successful persons beliefs and attitudes are, does not equal an ability to reproduce their success.
This is because their specific personal beliefs were borne from their specific personal experience, which would be impossible to reproduce. To learn their beliefs and attitudes to write them down and sell them as millionaires secrets is absolutely of no use or help to anyone else except the individual them self.
Beliefs are our most important psychological assets, If there is anything that is going to protect you from conflict, opposition and obstruction it is your belief in what you want to achieve. If there is anything that can give you the courage to take the plunge and do what is necessary regardless, it is belief.
This does not mean that if you find yourself in conflict with another person because that you believe that you are in the right and the other is in the wrong that you should not back down. One should always remain both clear-headed and inwardly strong so as to be able to meet ones opponent half way. To bear out conflict with another will only have negative effects.
However you cannot simply buy and sell beliefs based on experience, that is by simply adopting one successful persons belief system and following their actions does not mean that you will end up with the same results.
You will already have your own belief system that has been built through your own personal experience and simply learning a few beliefs and imposing them piggyback style on your own belief system will not work. Just as being infected by a virus into your physical body will be defended and fought of by your immune system, your psychological system will defend and fight off your newly adopted beliefs and it will only take one small doubt in your mind for your subconscious to do this.
Thus you can start a new project with all the emotion and excitement of success and then just the smallest niggling doubt can destroy your belief in an instant leaving you deflated and feeling like giving up.
Its at this stage that you can so easily be tempted by a clever piece of marketing and the promise of more secrets of success and rush for the next best business on the internet that will make your fortunes.
This is the cycle you need to break.
